Shouldn't that be "of this year"?

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief 4.25/5

Surprisingly good movie, even thought I'm fairly sure it was aimed at young adults. The CGI was top notch and for being a movie for teens, it was surprisingly dark. I'm gonna have to check out the books and see if they're any good. There was some cheesy dialogue, but that comes with the territory I suppose.

Waiting for CK's review of Valentine's Day.

I find it ironic that you make fun of things I rent in the same post that you gave The Lightning Thief four and a quarter stars

And if I see Valentine's Day at all, it most certainly will not be in theaters so you will be waiting awhile

Lightning Thief was good man, and you won't see Valentine's Day in theatres because you don't have a girl to watch it with, but you will watch it sooner or later.

Shutter Island 3.5/5

So the story itself is great, but it's plagued by cheesy dialogue, AWFUL special effects, and a plotline that jumps around a lot. It tries really hard to be artsy and reminded me a little bit of Eternal Sunshine with the way they went about the plot, but it just didn't work all that well. The ending was interesting, but the jury's still out on how I feel about it.

Shutter Island was pretty good! I didn't quite love it though! Biggest thing was (SPOILERS) the twist is really, guessable from the trailer obvious. The execution is actually pretty good which justifies it, but it's still kind of annoying to expect to WOW THE AUDIENCE with that.

Also I don't recall the dialogue being annoying.

I was very unwowed at the plot twist. They really hinted at it too much, especially with his dream sequences.

Alice in Wonderland 1.5/5

Goddamn did this fucking suck. The Jabberwocky tale aspect sucked and even though I understand it has been somewhat present in past versions of Alice I wish they would have done something else. The 3D blew and Johnny Depp was annoying and the whole lesson of the story was thrown in your face. I wanted to leave after a half hour.

Brooklyn's Finest: 4/5

Great plot, great acting, great dialogue. It strung together pretty well for a film with no real plot. The ending was climatic but seemed a bit pointless. If the movie didn't have three and a half fantastic actors, it probably wouldn't have been as good.

How to Train Your Dragon 4/5

I really enjoyed it. Again, the 3D wasn't anything spectacular and this stuff is kind of turning me off to 3D movies, especially since it's an extra three bucks. The story moved along a little too quickly despite the film's length, but I really enjoyed the story and the characters. This would be a fun one to watch again.

Hot Tub Time Machine - 4/5

I actually expect this to be a lot funnier the second time I watch it. Lots of great one liners and I suspect the DVD will have a lot of extra stuff. There's a lot of goofy inside jokes that are intended for the viewer to not understand.

The one glaring thing, and I don't know if this was done on purpose or if there's some clever reason behind this, but the movie is supposed to take place in 2010. The chubby kid is 20 and the time machine takes them back to 1986. He wasn't born yet, but he is conceived on the night they are there, so obviously we have an inconsistency. Maybe this is me caring too much about a stupid comedy, but I digress.

Kick Ass - 3/5

Enjoyed it for the most part, but it was a little slow in parts and not really as exciting as I'd hoped. It might be better watching it a second time through. Hit Girl was hilarious and the Jewish kid that played the lead was great. I didn't appreciate them showing two huge pairs of tits and not showing nipple, though. I was quite upset.

I enjoyed it a lot more than the first one. Better pace and cool fight scenes, but the final scene against Mickey Rourke was way too short.

The Losers - ****

Hesitant when I noticed it was rated PG-13 but it was still pretty good, some great action set pieces and the cast is all-around awesome.  Hoping they have an unrated cut when it comes out on DVD.
