So there's this stubborn man is on this island, right, and there's a mysterious person everyone says is there but no one can find them but this guy is going to find him. During the way he's having flashes of an imaginary "alternative" world where he's a different man than the one he is now. Eventually he's lead to a Lighthouse only to find nothing but memories...
The show ends with Dave and Hurley sending Jack off for a lobotomy...

During the way he's having flashes I know this was a jokepost but this came up yesterday with someone who apparently thinks they're "flashing" to this alternate reality and I really see no evidence for that Also Jack: still the worst Kate

Asked if he thought it was a good investment to spend so much of his own money in a two-way Democratic primary to run against a popular Republican with millions in campaign cash, Greene replied: “Rather than just save the $10,000 and just go and buy gasoline with it, just take [it] and just be unemployed for [an] even longer period of time, I mean, that wouldn’t make any sense, um, just, um, but, uh, yes, uh … lowering these gas prices … that will create jobs, too. Anything that will lower the gasoline prices. Offshore drilling, the energy package, all that.”

So, with Richard saying candidates can't kill themselves and then apparently are not allowed to be killed by Others is it meant to be implied that no one but other candidates may kill candidates (so long as they are other candidates?) I know there's nothing revelatory here but its interesting to look back on who has died or who hasn't and its kind of cool how they're sort of explaining away things that didn't need explanation...
Charlie first since he is probably going to be the hardest / most interesting one to think about. He has to die. I forget if anyone found his name on a wall or a wheel but it makes sense he was a candidate at some point and maybe once you lose that candidacy you're more than just up for grabs but the island tries to excise you with "destiny" (which is probably not true since Kate is scratched off I believe and doesn't have to be saved constantly). Also, when he's seemingly dead in the first season and is rescued by Jack it's because Ethan killed him and Ethan can't do that. Also, was Mikhail a candidate too because of his never dying? (This wouldn't work again because he was killed by Locke)
Michael can't kill himself because the island "isn't done with him" well I guess here's why it wasn't.
Locke doesn't die in the Dharma grave because Ben cannot kill him.
Sayid comes back to life because the gunshot isn't what killed him, he was drowned by the Others and they can't kill him.
Boon was either never a candidate or died because Locke killed him in a way.
If Ana Lucia, Libby, and Shannon were ever candidates it makes sense that all of them died because of a candidate shooting them (Michael and Ana Lucia)
I know its dumb to look so far back and expect the answers we have now to completely work for some of these but it's kind of neat.

I liked this episode a lot overall but some of it made me groan/laugh outloud. The cherry on top was the dumb as hell periscope shot.

I think the only candidates are the six that we know are candidates. Judging on the fact that there are only six numbers.

I'm curious to see where Whidmore falls into this fight. The Jacob/Smoke Monster conflict seemed a tier up from the Ben/Charles conflict and since Ben has kind of been shown to be irrelevant in that fight, how does Whidmore have a steak in it?
Best episode of the season to me honestly. I may have loved it for every reason I haven't felt connected to any of the other flash-sideways but I don't give a fuck. Sawyer rules.

I feel like I'm gonna like these episodes once its over is why I'm hesitant to complain. Right now this season is just sort of... happening, it's entertaining but nothing has happened in weeks. The Richard episode may be much better when you're not watching it thinking "there's only 7 episodes left after this and we're getting a mostly pointless episode about someone whose backstory isn't THAT complicated"
Rewatch the scene with Whidmore talking to Jin about being separated from his daughter and then remember he's got Desmond on the sub the whole time...
