As expected, Netflix has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to wait 28 days after the DVD release to offer new releases. In return Netflix will get a discount on Warner DVDs and access to Warner movies and TV shows for streaming. Netflix is expected to sign similar deals with the other major studios, effectively creating a new DVD rental window.
Between this and how lately if you don't turn in your movies on the exact date you need to, it goes to a long wait and stays there, Netflix is really pissing me off lately.
How does the upside of discounts possibly validate this downside? I wonder how many people will cancel Netflix and just start renting Redbox.

I doubt NetFlix is gonna take that big a hit from this, I don't see it as a very big deal. Most people wait forever for new releases as it is, waiting another 28 days is nothing plus the odds of Long Wait and Very Long Wait are gonna go down since Warner will be shipping NetFlix even more units.
On top of that, more movies on Watch Instantly.
Then again, I rarely rent new releases as it is with Redbox/Rental stores/download readily available.

The availability going up is good but not every movie requires a waiting period, especially not lesser-known movies

How many of the lesser-known movies from Warner do people even give a shit about?
Look at it like this, The Dark Knight came out on DVD, I'm betting some people waited months to get a disc, if this works out like they say, after 28 Days and more discs available, it'll be a shorter wait time overall

btw the studios' side of this deal is so stupid, do they really think the only thing keeping people from buying $15 copies of movies they haven't even watched before is Netflix?

entirely unrelated but Warner is the ones you can email and send money to and they'll make you a DVD of any movie they don't plan on releasing right Yep, I think it's mostly older stuff they just don't feel is worth releasing on DVD though. |

Definitely not applicable to me. I bought one CD last year and it was Thrice's newest album. Didn't buy a single DVD or book. I did go to the movies a few times, but I also snuck in a few times.
