STRAIGHT EDGE MEANS I'M BETTER THAN YOU

The third DCAU animated "movie" from WARNER PREMIERE! Actually it's six 15-minute shorts in the style of ANIME. God, that sounds awful doesn't it, but hey, it was released just a little over a week before The Dark Knight. So maybe it will serve as a decent appetizer, eh?
No it just sucked. I remember I said about Justice League: The New Frontier that a few tidbit things were added for no reason to make it PG-13. Parallax just said it was for old comic book nerds so it didn't matter. But no, that's dumb reasoning. And there's really absolutely no reason with Gotham Knight because its obvious that this is just trying to attract children. And for the love of God, if you are going to act all mature, at least be GOOD. But no this tries to be pseudo-adult themed (hey, like so many animes!) and ends up just sucking.
I didn't know Bruce Wayne was a woman. Man, the anime style just really destroys him here. In one short, he looks like a female, and in another, he looks like a typical anime hero who is a poindexter by day and something extraordinary by night. Well, no, Bruce is a billionaire playboy, so he shouldn't be a twig with glasses or a woman. Anime style sucks. This type of animation makes me sad because it just lets me know that the times have really past me by as far as cartoons go.
The biggest strike against Gotham Knight is its boring. It's boring as hell. In at least four of the six shorts, the "villain" of the piece has no star power whatsoever. Most of them feature either some nameless thug or a D-list guy like Firefly. (At least, I think that was Firefly?) It comes as no surprise that the best one was the one with Scarecrow and Killer Croc. For 15-minute shorts, they sure do manage to plod along at such agonizing slow paces.
I said it with Superman Doomsday, and I say it again here. The animation just seems bad. It looks like something that could have been made in the early '90s. I honestly think I saw some better, more realistic effects in BTAS.
The only saving grace I guess is that Scarecrow/Croc one was decent, and hey, at least Kevin Conroy voiced Batman. Otherwise, it's not worth it. Don't rent this. If you have Netflix, I'm sure it'll show up on Watch Now in a few weeks. Doomsday and New Frontier did.

http://www.filmcritic.com/misc/emporium.nsf/reviews/Batman-Gotham-Knight"An anime rendition of Batman is a nice treat, but the last thing we want to see is Bruce Wayne looking like the typical anime hunk with long, streaming hair and glassy eyes. This is how director Hiroshi Morioka depicts Bruce in Field Test, at least. The man's supposed to be a tortured, ninja-trained billionaire -- not a Pok

What does a tortured, ninja-trained billionaire look like exactly? Don't post a picture of Christian Bale, either. Or TAS Batman. Character design isn't important, unless it's horrendously awful, which it never is in the movie.
I just don't understand why people complain when anime looks like anime. It's just dumb. But then again I guess the times have really "past" you.

I would describe some of the character designs as "horrendously awful." But like I said in the first post -- it was mostly just boring. All the shorts were "short," but somehow they were also all slow-paced and boring.

Well, I guess, that's where we differ. After I watched it, I thought it was just a waste of time, and I kinda wished I'd watched something else.

I saw it today.
Yes, we could definitely take issue with some of the character designs, as well as the plot points -- like in the final scene where Bruce talks admirably about guns with Alfred. But I liked how some of the skits -- in particular the first two -- really did a good job of showing just how scary Bats is. It seems to often go neglected in animated Batman that one of his greatest powers is his ability to make criminals lose their mud when he shows up. It's not the best animated Batman you'll find, but I thought it was a worthy short side trip (just 75 minutes). Give it a rent.
The teaser for the upcoming Super Woman DTV looked interesting.

It's actually Wonder Womyn.
Yeah, I forgot to post when I watched this. The first four segments range from lame to okay, and then the last two, Working Through Pain and Deadshot, are excellent. Compare this to The Animatrix, where four out of the nine segments were good, and we're looking at a very similar ratio here. The animation is nice and I actually like the variation in the character designs. But the problem with most of these is that they're just boring.
I enjoyed watching the Batman: TAS episodes on disc two more than the main feature.

Okay, I just finished off the extras DVD. The B:TAS eps were waeome -- I hadn't seen any of those before, or if I had, I didn't remember them -- and the Bob Kane documentary was pretty good too. If you buy this, you should definitely get the version with the extras disc.

Yeah, the Bob Kane documentary was actually pretty interesting, and not as hokey as I expected it to be. I liked that they randomly had Mark Hamill on there. Also, I didn't know that Kane was such good friends with Stan Lee. At all times Lee is on screen, he just exudes awesomeness.
Random trivia: I have the same birthday as Bob Kane.

Mark Hamill was The Joker on B:TAS, so it's not entirely random.
The voice for Mr Freeze on B:TAS was so amazing

I know but Bob Kane had practically nothing to do with B:TAS. Maybe Hamill just knew him personally. It kind of sounded that way, but I dunno.
